Quilted Tote Bag .

Here I have used a jelly roll and a solid green fabric to make up this
Fully lined tote bag . includes a front pocket and shoulder straps . boxed corners.
Using wadding for the front and back to create a free motion all over quilting design of hearts and ribbons. Interfacing was used in the handles , top stitching .
Measuring 22 x 17 inches .

Thought i would start of showing you the patchwork block design that i created using a mixture
of cotton and cotton sateen .. this gives a lovely sheen to your quilting work .

First i marked out the feather border stem line, before going ahead and getting started on
the central wreath design .

Marking out the designs free hand with chalk does help you keep on track with the outlines.

 Starting out with the outer and inner rings then filling in with the feathers.

 this time i thought of dressing it up a little by adding some gold circles .

 Hyperquilting has become  my new  favorite , with so much coloured thread
out there to play with . It came really change your design and give it a complete new look .

Now the central wreath is complete using a mixture of gold, green and mergenta .







Adding the feather borders was fun to work with , and completed the look .

fabric Dying .

Fabric Dying.

Hi there , it been a couple of days of heavy rain here.. 

So i thought why not indulge in some fabric dying . 

ive always had a love for tie-dying ever since i can remember , brightening up white cotton T shirts and other items  for myself and my Daughter .

So this time i thought why not dye some plain cotton fabric and see how it turns out . 

So with fabric at the ready coloured Dye salt etc i got started . . 

I tend to mix up separate colours and have them on hand to add as i wish .
Here you can see i have used a beautiful coral blue for the initial colour , then adding a tulip
red to certain areas . I then leave it to soak and mix for at least a couple of hrs . 

With another hr or so wrapped up in a plastic bag and placed somewhere warm to help what
i call the cooking process , this i find helps to  soak up the dye and produce much stronger
colours .

 Here you have one of the pieces  of fabrics dried and ready to iron later. 

By the end of the day i have  quite a collection . 

 the colours and patterns that are created are unique and individual , and would excellent for use
in applique pieces .

The nice thing is that you never really know what patterns and colour mixes you will end up with .

So now i have  seven meters of patterned  fabric ,
I cant wait to make up my very own charm packs, jelly rolls and sashing . . 

This will help to make my quilts and wall hangings even more unique .

Patchwork velvet curtains .

This project was for my  Daughter , making up a pair of velvet curtains from scraps of fabric

which i had collected over the years.

 Sorting out the fabrics and cutting into 10inch squares was my first task.

Sewing the squares together did cause some little problems , as not all the fabrics were of the same weight ,
Using the walking foot helped a great deal .




I added a border of corduroy fabric on either side .

I used a dark peach fabric for the linings .

I went on to complete the curtains attaching the header tapes. each curtain measured 70inch in length. .

Im pretty sure my Daughter will be very pleased with the result.

Summer Quilt .

 Square within a square quilt.

 Here i started off with using 2 21/2 inch strips , cutting into small blocks and sewing together.
 Using flower design fabrics helped add a summer theme to this quilt .

then adding jelly rolls strips to form the surround squares , then finally adding white sashing .

And all over stippling design was throughout .

Applique flower cushion cover

 Applique cushion 

Placing and  attaching the applique designs with a machine blanket stitch was the first step.

As you can see a Free motion feather design completed the borders, followed up  with a clam shell design , now to sew in all those ends .. 

 Close up of the filler design , i do find this really helps the applique pieces to jump forward .

baby lap quilt.

 

 

Baby lap quilt.

 This lap quilt was fun and fast to make , using 6inch square of pastel colour fabrics.  it came together really quickly.

Then using an all over swirling quilted design.

Autumn patchwork quilt

Autumn lap Quilt.

 Thought i would try my hand at raw applique on this quilt . and with using the colours of
autumn its turned out pretty well ..

 I did a very random design of stippling , and then worked designs of leaves in each block .

Patchwork quilt.

 Fence rail quilt.

This started out using just three strips of fabric from a jelly roll .. but decided to add three more, 

this created a bigger block to work with .. The quilt came together really fast , i used the walking foot to help sew all the segments together , it does really help when you are working with more than one layer of fabric . Now all that is needed is a simple all over quilting design . 

I call this the swirling vine design.

Dragonfly Applique cushion cover .

Applique has got me hooked at the moment .. so here is another one of my
own designs ..
this time i would use dragonflies , using softer shades of fabric .

Once again i started off with a 12inch square of light fabric adding a border around
of the chosen fabric .. then started applying the applique pieces ..

When this was finished I made up the Quilting sandwich of wadding and backing fabric all pinned and
ready to start echo quilting around each applique before quilting a filler design .

 The filler Design i call waves and pebbles ..

Here is the finished cushion cover measuring 18x18 square.
Also teamed up with the Butterflies applique cushion. from a previous Post.

Butterfly Applique cushion cover .

First things first was to cut out a 12inch square of cream fabric and then decide on the main 

fabric for borders and applique .. 

Cutting out the Applique pieces of a single flowers with butterflies ..

Attaching them with a blanket stitch ..

 After this was complete i made up into the quilt sandwich of wadding and backing fabric.
 Echo stitched around the designs and stitching each separate piece that makes up the
applique , I find this really helps to bring the design forward giving it a 3D effect .


Filling in the back ground with a simple Quilting design which i call
hairbands ..

This borders will remain un quilted and made up with a light moss green fabric for the back of
the cushion cover.. This will measure 18inch square when complete.

Large Applique throw cushion .

Applique cushion.

First thing was to select a assortment of fabrics, and play around with some designs for
the applique pieces..

Then fixing them into place it was time to attach them to a patchwork block of white fabric
using a simple button hole stitch .

then another layer of applique was added to create a border and finally some deep
Damson fabric was to complete the front patchwork design .

Now it was time to start filling in the spaces in between

This was done using a simple stippling design.

A gold silk thread was used throughout this project .

With just the remaining white border to finished with the stippling design before
going on to create a design for the outer border ..


Will keep you posted with an update of the finished project.

Batik Wall Hanging .

I Started off with a good selection of Batik 4inch squares, matching up pairs ready to sew into
half square triangles .. taking note of colour and pattern to get the best result.

 

Then it was the case of sewing into blocks of four and then the blocks into strips .
I added a light 2oz batting and a backing fabric.. . Starting from the center i used a
simple zig zag stitch around each bock .


Finally an all over large Quilted stippling design

 

Trimmed again and added two inch borders binding and tags .
This Wall Hanging measured 24x60 inch when complete.

Update on applique cushions

Started off in the same way with a patchwork block and then the applique. . Echo Quilted around the design and filed in with a simple stippling filler. .

  Made up the cushions cover .
Fits a 18inch cushion. .

Hi there , ive started off this week end with some Batik cotton fabrics also some William Morris Jelly rolls. First thing was to cut out the Applique shapes and fix to the fabric using a blanket stitch .

I created a border using the Jelly Roll.

Then another round of Applique .

This was then made up into the sandwich of wadding and backing fabric .. I used a gold silk thread to start the echo stitch around each of the Applique design .. this really helps with pulling the design forward .

The filler design for this project was a simple Stippling .

This will now be made up into the cushion cover .. will post an update

Set of Quilted feather cushion covers.

Hi there ,

 Over the past few days i had an idea to make a set of colourful cotton/cotton sateen covers ..

first thing was to make up a front cover using the courthouse patchwork block design . .

 

Once the Design was make up and the seams were ironed flat . I made up the sandwich
layer, using 4oz wadding and a plain white backing fabric .

Starting from the center and working my way up to each corner with Quilted feathers .

Now it was time to trim once again and attach the back cover with a zip going across the back .

These were both made up to the size for a 14inch cushion .. and the larger one was 18inch .
