Make up bags

Here are a selection of small bags , these could be used make up etc
Each different piece of  fabric had its free motion quilting carried out a few days before ,
Then cut to size for each project . all bags are fully lined .

More summer Tote bags

Here are my latest Tote bags .
using wadding when free motion quitting is applied . I us used a stippling design . fully lined. front pocket and strong handles . measuring 22 x 17 .

Poppy design fabric . jelly role strips added to this one in a contrasting colour . lined with a pale green fabric . plus poppy fabric inside pocket . measuring 19 x 12 inches . top opening 13inches.

Quilted Tote Bag .

Here I have used a jelly roll and a solid green fabric to make up this
Fully lined tote bag . includes a front pocket and shoulder straps . boxed corners.
Using wadding for the front and back to create a free motion all over quilting design of hearts and ribbons. Interfacing was used in the handles , top stitching .
Measuring 22 x 17 inches .

Table runner . Free following quilted feathers , on hand dyed cotton fabric , with micro stippling filler design in ice white thread.

Feathers and echo quilting

Here is a little project that i started yesterday , I added a number of swirls within the border of echo quilting, I found this has added more intetest and texture.

This project has worked out having an oriental look about it. Will make an ideal wall hanging .

Fun with feathers.

Its the week end again time for some fun with feathers.
Here are a selection of samples of fun with feather quilting.

Table mat.

I find adding a little starch while you iron the fabric helps quilting much easier. The design was marked on the fabric before making up into the quilt sandwich . Using calico for the backing and 4oz wadding .

Coloured rayon thread 40wt . Bottomline 60wt lint free polyester for the bobbin .

Once the initial outline of the design was complete i then went a head with echo quilting , hyperquilted finished the project.

This piece was  fun to work with.. All Quilting was carried out free hand , once the feather stems line was drawn with chalk , pretty much made up the design as i went along. .

New project Table place mat .

Pre dyed 

Quilted Table place mat. 

This fabric is from my pre dyed cotton sateen  pieces using a tulip red with just a splash of purple . 

 started out with making my quilt sandwich using a cotton white backing fabric, and trying out a layer

of wool batting . As you can you can see i have hand drawn the outline of my design , using a small slice of white chalk .Here are the coloured threads that i will be using . . marathon rayon and Yli ultrasheen , also a pre wound bobbin with maderia thread in white. 

 Starting out with the coral blue thread to set the design , 

This time i quilting the hump back feathers , which i do find when working from the base of the design and working towards me works best for me . 

Adding a flower of sorts to add another subject . .

Now to the fun part . echo and filler designs , plus a little Hyperquilting to finish it off .

The start of a new Quilted design . Using a piece of colour dyed cotton sateen. .

Quilted Table Runner . 

 Ive picked out this fabric , its one that i dyed the other week , ive used some polydown polyester
batting for the sandwich with a plain lavender fabric backing . using 505 spray to keep the whole sandwich together .

 Used some paper stuck together to make the 48inch strip , so that i can draw out my design .

then cutting out the outline , so that i can get a rough idea for placement on  the fabric, then filling in
the separate feather details with a fine chalk pencil .

so far i have used a teal coloured thread for the outline .

Time for a new quilting Foot.

Convertible Free Motion

Quilting Foot. 

Been using the Quilt / Darning Foot for some time now ,with its hop hop motion .  thought i would give this little Convertible foot a try .. Having two low shank machines , I  looked around on the net and from this one compatible with them both . . Janome came through with flying colours ...they do sell this set for both low and high shank machine . 

As you can see it includes

foot holder , with a side spring which enables you to higher or lower the foot , allowing the foot to  just skims the surface of your fabric ...  making it so much easier when moving your quilt around. 

1. Closed - toe foot

2. Open  - toe foot 

3.Clear view foot , which is excellent for echo quilting . 

4. Quilting Plate . . no need to drop the feed dogs. .  But ive found that if you are unable to drop lower the

feed dogs just setting your stitch length to zero will do this . . 

this set has been a roaring success for me , 

I have used it in free motion feather quilting and also echo and filler designs .. just wished i had found this 

a little sooner.
